Athens, Greece

Our first stop on our two-week European honeymoon was Athens, Greece.

Here was our travel itinerary:

We flew from Cincinnati, OH (CVG) to Newark, NJ (EWR) and then from Newark, NJ (EWR) to Athens, Greece (ATH). We had about a 2 hour layover in Newark. We flew through the night, so we tried to get as much sleep as we could on the flight to help with the jet lag once we arrived in Greece.

Here in the link to our travel must-haves:

Once we landed in Athens, it was 10 am their time (a 7 hour time difference), so we had a full day to explore the city. We arranged a driver to pick us up from the airport and take us to our Airbnb. It definitely put our minds at ease knowing we already had transportation arranged and we didn't have to figure that out once we landed in a different country. (We also used Welcome Pickups throughout our trip to arrange transportation. This app guarantees an English-speaking driver - highly recommend!)

We stayed in Airbnbs throughout our entire trip. Here is the link to our Athens Airbnb:

We had a great experience with our stay - very responsive host, within walking distance to restaurants and the Acropolis (20 minute walk), very clean, and we felt safe in this area.

We only stayed in Athens for one full day and one night, which, in our opinion, was plenty of time to see the highlights of the city. Once we checked into our Airbnb, we were on Greek time!

We booked several excursions and tours months in advance to make sure we were able to see and do everything on our bucket list! Our Athens tour was a half-day sightseeing tour with an English-speaking tour guide. We booked this tour through Viator. It costs $150 total for two people.

After our tour, we stopped at a restaurant on the street for dinner (there are tons of restaurants on the streets with menus available for you to look at before you decide on a spot to eat at), grabbed some food gelato, and headed back to the Airbnb!
